Day 9

We made our 79 miles to the Richardson grove state park. Again we're among the redwoods. We followed the Eel river most of the day and were surprised by how easy the day was. The tailwind really helped. Much of the ride was on the avenue of the giants and for 6 miles we rode among a large group of marathon runners. There probably were over a thousand runners.

We upscaled our dinner sandwiches tonight. Salami instead of sardines.

Tomorrow we cross back over the coast range to ride down hiway 1.

Hi dad- You guys are doing super great! Keep rollin. Your camp sites look pretty ghetto, no tent? But as usual I love you creativity, it is one of your greatest qualities. Big news, rode to Redhook on Sunday with Baba and Popkins. I rode the recumbant and didn't fall once. (No clips still too scary). I got a little flustered a couple of times with rude rides, who were hauling and not saying "on left" and got the gears mixed up. Oli was a rock star, took two short naps, whined a little but we got out at the park and then continued. It was really fun, but behind my knees hurts a bit. Wish you were there, but by the time you are back Oli and I will be ready for some breakfast rides. Love hearing and seeing your trip, you are an inspiration to all. Way to go! Be safe, cheap, and positive. Love you lots,
Kaija, Aaron, and Olavi

Eyesight

It was May before my
attention came
to spring and

my word I said
to the southern slopes

I've
missed it, it
came and went before
I got right to see:

don't worry, said the mountain,
try the later northern slopes
or if

you can climb, climb
into spring: but
said the mountain

it's not that way
with all things, some
that go are gone

There you have it Pete-- one of my favorite poems-- seems fitting for your journey with Hugh as you go up the Cascades again.

Good riding to you.

For all of us non texters I looked up "afaik" on google="as far as I know." I am almost glad I don't know thoes things. It took me like three tries just to "spell" it right. Lame. Just keep riding.
